Biography

Takeo MORI serves as Advisor to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan since August 2023. Prior to this, he had a distinguished 40-year career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including serving as Vice Minister - the most senior career diplomat position.
He was posted at numerous Japanese Embassies around the world, including Germany (Bonn 1984-1988 and Berlin 1999-2002), Singapore (1997-1999) and Washington D.C. (2010-2013).

During his career, he represented Japan in different capacities, including at the G7, the East Asia Summit, and as chief negotiator for automotive trade in the Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations. As Director General for North America, he was responsible for the preparation for President Obama’s visit to Hiroshima and also helped prepare for, while also participating in the bilateral meetings between Prime Minister Abe and President Trump.
As Vice Minister, he represented Japan in the Japan-US-ROK Vice Ministerial Trilateral, which led to the historic Trilateral Leaders‘ Meeting in August 2023 at Camp David.
