LEE Sookyung

Biography

Sookyung LEE is a nutritionist who is interested in the effects of social changes on diets and nutritional status. She was first drawn to the food and nutrition issues in North Korea during the “March of Suffering” during the 1990s. Her efforts in this area include analyzing data on North Korean children, monitoring the food and nutrition situation in North Korea, examining impacts of famine experiences in the early stage of life among North Korean child refugees, and understanding the dietary adaptation of North Korean refugees in South Korea. She hopes these efforts would help in bringing peace and well-being to everyone in the Korean peninsula.
She obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degree in Food and Nutrition from Seoul National University. Her doctoral degree in Nutrition was obtained from Cornell University in the U.S. She later received an MsPH degree from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. After working as faculty at Hunter College and Rutgers University, Sookyung LEE is currently working in the department of Food and Nutrition at Inha University.
