Biography

Sean has been a full time dry stonewaller for the last 35 years primarily restoring agricultural boundaries in North Wales. Twice a runner-up in the British Championships, he won over 30 competitions across the UK. In recent years he has been involved in several projects in North America which have been more artistic than artisanal.
Co-author of TCV’s “Dry Stone Walling” widely regarded as the leading manual on the craft available in the English Language. He has also written 2 booklets “Stonework” and “Clawdd construction,” the latter being the only known manual on this aspect of the craft. He contributes technical and general articles to several magazines and produces an occasional magazine “Stonechat.” These are included on several websites he has created to help preserve knowledge of the craft. He strongly believes in making information widely available and essentially free of charge through his own and others, (such as the Vermont Stone Trust), platforms. He has taught and lectured across North America as well as in the UK and Eire. Not much to do with walling he has a BA (Hons) in Modern History and Politics (Soton1972) and DipMath (Open).
In 2024 he was awarded the British Empire Medal by King Charles III for services to Dry Stone Walling.
