Biography

Dr. Hee Young PAIK is a Professor Emeritus of Seoul National University and the Former Minister of Gender Equality and Family, Republic of Korea, 2009-2011, and Former Director of the Center for Gendered Innovations in Science and Technology Research (GISTeR), and Dr. PAIK received Doctor of Science in Nutrition from Harvard School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. After receiving doctoral degree, she worked as a faculty member at Sookmyung Women’s University and then at Seoul National University in Korea. She worked in various professional organizations including Presidents of the Korean Home Economics Association, the Korean Nutrition Society, and the Korea Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations (KOFWST) in 2014-2015. During her presidency, one of the new areas of activities of KOFWST was to promote gendered innovations in science and technology. KOFWST was one of the organizers of the Gender Summit 6 - Asia Pacific 2015 which was the first Gender Summit to be held outside Europe and North America. She established GISTeR in 2016 to expand the scope of the activities. Dr. PAIK served as a member of the IUNS Council in 2005-2009, and received many honors including Asia-Pacific Clinical Nutrition Award (2009) and Blue Ribbon National Medal for Public Service (2012).
