Biography

Dr. Key Yong Sung obtained all of his degrees in Nuclear Engineering, most recently his Ph.D. from KAIST in 1997. Dr. Sung was sworn into office as the 11th President of the Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety(KINS) in October 2016. Before his ascension to the presidency, Dr. Sung had ample regulatory experience and had served various key positions at KINS, contributing to the promotion and strengthening of nuclear safety regulation. He was the project manager for Mid- and Long-Term Research Projects from 1998 to 2003 and the project manager for the Yonggwang Unit from 2003 to 2006. Subsequently, Dr. Sung took the role of Manager of the Department of Risk Assessment from 2006 to 2011. From November 2013 to March 2015, he was the Director of the Division of Reactor Licensing, and was the Vice President of KINS from March 2015 to September 2016. At the international level, Dr. Sung was a member of the MDEP Steering Technical Committee affiliated with the OECD/NEA from 2013 to 2015. He was also the Korean Representative of CNRA, which is also affiliated with the OECD/NEA, from 2015 to 2016.
