Biography

Joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 1990, Mr. Nguyen Vu Tung has held various positions as follows:

- March 1990 – December 2003 Researcher at the Institute for International Relations (IIR)
-January 2004 – April 2008 Deputy Chair, Department of International Politics and Vietnamese Diplomacy; and Deputy Director, Center for Europe and Americas Studies at the IIR
-May 2008 – June 2010 Deputy Director General of the Institute for Strategic and Foreign Policy Studies at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV); and Deputy Director General, Policy Planning Department (MOFA)
- July 2010 – January 2014 Minister, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Vietnam in the United States of America
- March 2014 – July 2020 Director General of Institute for East Sea (South China Sea) Studies; Director General of Institute for Strategic and Foreign Policy Studies; DAV Vice President (October 2015) and DAV President (September 2016)
- August 2020 – Present Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to the Republic of Korea

Mr. Nguyen Vu Tung earned academic degrees, including:
- September 1981 – May 1986 Bachelor's degree in International Relations & Diplomacy at the Institute of International Relations (IIR)
- September 1986 – August 1987 Certificate of Russian Language Proficiency at the Kiev Polytechnics (Ukraine)
-January 1996 – August 1997 Master Degree in International Laws and Diplomacy at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA
- August 1999 – November 2003 Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science, Columbia University, New York City, USA
