Biography

Ms. Miyeon Kim is an international law expert, former Vice-Chairperson of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and current Chairperson of the Committee\'s Working Group on Women and Girls with Disabilities (2023-present). Active in the field of disability and women\'s rights for more than 30 years, she was one of the main architects of the creation of Article 6 on women with disabilities in the UNCRPD and has worked to contribute to the improvement of the human rights situation of women and girls with disabilities, older persons, migrants and refugees within the framework of the CRPD. More recently, she has been conducting research on disasters and climate change and the human rights of persons with disabilities, and serves on the CRPD Committee\'s Working Group on Article 11 General Comment - Situations of Risk and Humanitarian Emergencies. In Korea, she is a member of the International Advisory Committee of the National Human Rights Commission and the Disability Advisory Committee of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). In 2000, she founded the Cultural Community of Women with Disabilities, which has been dedicated to the human rights movement of women with disabilities in Korea and globaly.
