Biography
A Colombian career diplomat with a 27-year-old record of dedicated public service, who holds a wide, comprehensive experience on multilateral, bilateral and consular affairs. He joined the Colombian Foreign Service in 1995. He currently serves as Minister Plenipotentiary and Chargé d’affaires, a.i. at the Embassy of Colombia in the Republic of Korea. Formerly, he served as advisor at the Visa and Immigration Group of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia in Bogota, where among other responsibilities he provided advice on policy making on immigration matters, including the participation in the exchange of views with the Congress Legislative Unit preparing the Colombian Comprehensive Policy for Migration.
From June 2018 to August 2019, he served as Ambassador, Deputy Permanent Representative of Colombia to the United Nations in New York. He also served as Political Counselor at the Embassy of Colombia in Washington, D.C. from September 2017 to June 2018.
During his career, Mr. Gonzalez has also held multiple positions, both in Colombia and abroad. His responsibilities at the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations in Geneva, where he served as Minister Counselor, included disarmament and immigration matters (2014-2017), as such, he negotiated the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the Global Compact on Migration. While his tenure at the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations in New York in the same capacity, he was responsible for the Peace and Security portfolio, including the Security Council and the Fourth Committee (2007-2010).
