Historical Reconciliation and Dialogue: Building a Future-oriented South Korea-Japan Relationship

Biography

Wee Kaya, born on September 30, 1980, received his Ph.D. in Korean ancient history from the Department of History of Sungkyunkwan University. He has been researching international relations in East Asia, with the focus on the histories of Baekje and Gaya. Wee is responsible for research and policy projects at the Institute of Pre-Modern History of Korea and the Textbook Research Center of the Northeast Asian History Foundation. In his latest research project, Wee attempts to understand the international relations of the polities in the ancient Korean Peninsula and the Japanese Archipelago from the perspective of interaction while also looking for ways to apply such an understanding to policy issues. His major research achievements include \"The Theory of \'Imna-Daemado\' and the Inverted Colonialism.\" He is currently working on a project to analyze the descriptions related to Korean history in the elementary school social studies textbooks that have been approved by the Japanese government in 2023.
