Biography

Mr. Vikram Doraiswami joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1992. He took a Master’s Degree in History form the University of Delhi. He was posted to the Commission of India in Hong Kong as Third Secretary (1994). He learnt Chinese at the New Asia Yale-in-Asia language school of the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was posted to the Embassy of India in Beijing (1996) where he served for four years. He was appointed Deputy Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi (2000-2002) and was seconded to the Prime Minister’s Office and later served as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister of India. He was posted to the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York as Political Counsellor (2006), and Consul General in Johannesburg (2009), and Head of the Division for the SAARC, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation, (2011-2012), and Joint Secretary of the Americas Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhil (2012-2014). He became Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan in October 2014, before assuming his current responsibilities as India’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea in April 2015. Mr. Vikram Doraiswami’s interests include reading, sports, squash, hiking, travel and Jazz. He speaks Chinese, French and is learning Korean.
