Biography

Suk-chang Lee, president of Jayeonjeju, is an environmentalist, an expert in ecological restoration, and a cultural activist. He majored in Forestry at Konkuk University and received his master’s and Ph.D. degrees in horticultural science from Chung-Ang University. He played a leading role in planting pines on Dockdo, greening the rocky island, and also conducted vegetation restoration activities on the mountain Halla as well asthe barren island. He served as a member of the Advisory Committee for Jeju World Natural Heritage and Jeju Special Self-Governing Province’s cultural properties, as well as the president of the Promotional Committee for Jeju World Natural Heritage. Currently, he is a deputy chairman of the National Promotion Committee for Restoring Hanon Crater, a special member of the Korean Society of Environment and Ecology, a deputy chairman of the Korean Arboretum and Botanical Garden Association, a president of Seogwipo Cultural Organization, and a president of Seok-joo Myung Memorial Society.
