Biography
Dr. Vanessa USHIE is the Acting Director of the African Natural Resources Centre (ANRC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB). The Centre is the AfDB’s specialized department focused on natural resource management, which supports the Bank’s regional member countries (RMCs) to harness their natural resources for sustainable development. She concurrently serves as Manager of the Centre’s Policy Analysis Division, leading the economic and policy analysis on natural resource management. She was previously an Advisor on Mineral Sector Governance at the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and jointly served as AMDC Liaison/Advisor to the Industry Division, African Commission Department of Trade and Industry. Before joining AMDC, Vanessa led Oxfam’s Pan-Africa Programme on the Extractive Industries. Prior to that, she was a Helleiner Fellow in the Governance of Natural Resources Programme at the North-South Institute in Ottawa, Canada. She also served as Director of Institutional Advancement and Head of the Natural Resources, Energy and Environment Thematic Area, and Director of Research, at the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) Abuja, Nigeria.
