Biography
바네사 우시에는 아프리카개발은행(AfDB) 아프리카천연자원센터의 센터장이다. 아프리카천연자원센터는 천연자원관리에 중점을 둔 특별부서로, 아프리카개발은행 내 지역회원국(RMCs)들의 지속가능한 천연자원 개발이 가능하도록 지원하는 역할을 맡고 있다. 우시에는 현재 천연자원센터 내 정책분석 부서장을 겸직하며 천연자원 관리의 경제정책 분석을 이끌고 있다. 이전 유엔아프리카경제이사회(UNECA) 산하 아프리카광물자원개발센터(AMDC)의 고문으로 근무하며 아프리카연합(AU) 위원회 무역산업부서에서의 AMDC 담당자이자 고문을 겸했다. 이외 옥스팜(Oxfam)의 채굴산업 관련 범아프리카 사업 담당, 캐나다 남북연구소(the North-South Institute)의 천연자원 거버넌스 프로그램 방문 연구원, 나이지리아 아프리카경제연구센터(CSEA)의 연구부장, 개발부장, 천연자원에너지환경부장 등을 맡은 바 있다. 나이지리아 칼라바대학 경제학 학사, 영국 로버트고든대학 국제무역학 석사, 영국 소아스(SOAS)대학 경제학 박사 학위를 받았다.
Dr. Vanessa USHIE is the Acting Director of the African Natural Resources Centre (ANRC) of the African Development Bank (AfDB). The Centre is the AfDB’s specialised department focused on natural resource management, which supports the Bank’s regional member countries (RMCs) to harness their natural resources for sustainable development. She concurrently serves as Manager of the Centre’s Policy Analysis Division, leading the economic and policy analysis on natural resource management. She was previously an Advisor on Mineral Sector Governance at the African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), and jointly served as AMDC Liaison/Advisor to the Industry Division, African Union Commission Department of Trade and Industry. Before joining AMDC, Vanessa led Oxfam’s Pan-Africa Programme on the Extractive Industries. Prior to that, she was Helleiner Fellow in the Governance of Natural Resources Programme at the North-South Institute in Ottawa, Canada. She also served as Director of Institutional Advancement and Head of the Natural Resources, Energy and Environment Thematic Area, and Director of Research, at the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) Abuja, Nigeria.
