Biography
Kyu Deug Hwang is a Professor and a Chair of the Division of African Studies at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS). He was a former Director of the Institute of African Studies at HUFS. Currently, he is a Vice President of the Korean Association of African Studies (KAAS) as well as a member of the Policy Advisory Committee on the Ministry of Justice, Republic of Korea (ROK). He was also a member of the Policy Advisory Committee on both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense, Republic of Korea (ROK). He has produced several academic and research works on peace-security, conflict, and development in Africa, including “Africa’s Strategic Emergence and U.S. Energy Security in Africa” (2011), and “A Critical Approach to Peacekeeping in Africa” (2018). “Some Reflections on Indigenous Approaches to Building Peace in Africa” (2019).
