Biography
김정호는 2001년부터 현재까지 청주동물원에서 수의사로 일하고 있으며 2016년부터는 동물원 동물관리를 총괄하고 있다. 시립 청주동물원의 역할이 지역의 토종야생동물 보전하고 이를 시민들에게 알리는 교육기관이라고 믿고 있다. 그에 대한 실천으로 동물원에서 나갈 수 있는 야생동물은 방사훈련을 통해 서식지로 돌려보내고 보호받아야 하는 영구장애 야생동물은 동물원으로 데려오고 있다. 또 기회가 있으면 학교나 시민단체를 방문하여 야생동물에 대한 이야기를 전한다. 다큐멘터리 영화 <동물,원>(2019)에 출연하였으며 저서로는 <코끼리없는동물원>(2021)이 있다. 이러한 업적으로 2018년 환경부장관상과 2020년 대통령상을 수상했다.

His philosophy for the municipal zoo centers around the dedication for native wildlife conservation and the education of the general public. Many animals unable to be released into the wild have been brought into the custody of Cheongju zoo, where they will be protected for life while educating visitors. He also participates in public talks at schools or civic groups about wildlife. He was featured in the documentary [garden, zoological, (2019)], and is a published author, [A zoo without elephants, (2021)]. He was awarded the Ministry of Environment Citation Award in 2018 and Presidential Citation in 2020 for his services to wildlife conservation.
