Biography

In-Jin Yoon is a professor in the Department of Sociology, at Korea University and the president of the Korean International Migration Studies Association. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Chicago and taught at the Asian American Studies Department, at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He served as the former president of the Association for North Korean Migrants Studies and the Association for the Studies of Koreans Abroad, the vice director of the Asiatic Research Institute of Korea University, and the director of the Korea University Press. His research interests include social psychology, international migration, immigration policy, race and ethnic relations, and overseas Koreans and Korean diaspora. He is the author of On My Own: Korean Businesses and Race Relations in America (1997), Korean Diaspora (2004), North Korean Migrants (2009), International Migration and Multiculturalism in Northeast Asia (2014), and the editor of Identity of Koreans (2016), Theories and Practices of Diaspora and Transnationalism (2017), the Current State of Overseas Koreans Community and Policy Tasks (2018), Koreatowns and Korean communities Abroad (2019), and The Next Generation of Overseas Koreans and Mainstreaming (2019).
