Biography
Dong-chan Park is an activist, a writer, and an academic laborer. Born in 1996 in Shenyang as a 5th generation Chaoxianzu, Park has drifted afloat in the gap between China and Korea, between socialism and capitalism. Fascinated by the poet YUN Dong-ju and with a desire to follow in his footsteps, Park crossed the border and entered Yonsei University―Yun’s alma mater―as a Korean language and literature major. Once a fervent nationalist aligning himself with unification and overseas Korean movements, Park soon realized the boundary of exclusion those movements conceived and distanced himself from them. The discovery of a self that wants to lean on the category of “compatriot”.
Although it has been seven years living in South Korea, he still feels uncomfortable within the framework of the “nation-state” that tries to define and bind. So, he likes to introduce himself as an exile who has a nationality but does not have a motherland. He currently is a panelist for a podcast introducing East Asian movies, and like his nomadic nature, likes to be involved here and there. He is also a freelance writer and has won the rookie award from Liaodong Literature and the grand prize from Korean Diaspora Literature."
