Biography
Dae-yeong Youn is a historian whose earlier research focused on the modern and contemporary history of Vietnam, in particular intellectual exchanges with the Northeast Asian region during the colonial period from a socio-historical perspective. Subsequent studies examine the East Asian world, including Vietnam, from the perspective of Korea’s experiences, dealing with port openings, Koreans’ experiences in Southeast Asia, cultural exchange, and the relationship between Korea and Vietnam from the perspective of exchange history and comparative history. Currently, his research interests focus on the history of Champa, Vietnamese Buddhist history, and Korean society during the Vietnam War.
