Biography
He obtained his Doctorate Degree in Korean History from Seoul National University with a dissertation on Huh Jun’s life and his book Donguibogam, one of the most influential classics in the history of Eastern medicine. Before he joined Seoul National University Asia Center in 2022, he was a researcher at Kyujanggak Institute of Korean Studies at Seoul National University and a professor at the Gyeongin National University of Education. He has been interested in people’s history, or history from below, and the reception of scientific knowledge in the Joseon Dynasty. Now, his research focuses on medical history, crimes and punishments, the system of governance, and the tradition of mutual aid in the history of Joseon Dynasty. His major works include as following: The Renowned Doctors in Joseon, Medical Culture of Royal Family in Joseon, Murder Cases 100 Years Ago, Jeong Yak-yong’s Theory on Justice, and The Theory on Rechtsstaat of King Jeongjo, etc.
