Biography

Beomshik Shin is a scholar in International Politics specializing in Eurasia’s International Relations. Russia’s role in Eurasia and the change in Eurasian international relations has grown into a major field of research in the discipline of International Politics. Despite this, there have been few attempts to establish Eurasia as a ‘region’ or to reveal the characteristics of Eurasia’s international relations from a regional/ political point of view, and such attempts have been unsuccessful so far. Moreover, the stories of Russia and Central Asia, which have occupied a large area and have coexisted in Asia for a long time, have not been recognized as ‘Asia’ or approached as a subject of study. However, the issue of defining and objectifying the Russia-Eurasian region in order to properly understand the newly emerging ‘Mega-Asia’ in the 21st Century has become an important question. This has become a key point of contact for connecting Eurasian studies with Mega-Asia research. Following this context, Shin’s research reveals important implications for this project. He has defined Eurasia as a ‘region’ and conducted research on capturing the characteristics of International Politics in this region from the point of view of Comparative Regional Studies.
