Biography
Lee Hee-soo is the nation's top authority on Middle East-Islamic culture, graduating from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies and earning a Ph.D in Islamic history from Istanbul University. He was an assistant professor at Marmara University in Istanbul and a visiting professor at the University of Washington and the University of Vienna. Currently, he is an Emeritus Professor of Cultural Anthropology at Hanyang University, Director of the Islamic Culture Research Institute at SungKongHoe University, and Distinguished Professor at Keimyung University. He has conducted field research in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Egypt for more than 40 years, and has visited Turkey 167 times. There are 90 domestic books and 12 foreign language books. "Islam and Korean Culture" has been published in Korean, English, Iranian, Arabic, and Turkish and is read as a classic in this field. "Islam by Lee Hee-soo" is a best-selling book that sold 250,000 volumes and "Islam for Children” 120,000 books. Recently, it has been receiving a great response from academia and Korean society by publishing "New Perspective of Human History" which aims to view human civilization with a more universal point of view beyond Eurocentrism and Chinese-centered thought.
