LEE Woo Young majored in sociology and earned his Ph.D. at Yonsei University. After serving as a senior research fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification, he is currently a professor at the University of North Korea. He is studying and teaching North Korea's society and culture. Regarding inter-Korean relations, there is a major interest in social and cultural exchanges and integration. He served as president of the Korean Association of North Korean Studies, is a standing member of The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, and is an advisor to the Unification Ministry. He is one of the directors of the Okedongmu Children in Korea, which provides support for North Korea and peace education.
