Biography
연세대학교에서 사회학을 전공하고 박사학위를 취득하였다. 통일연구원 연구위원을 거쳐 현재 북한대학원 대학교 교수로 재직 중이다. 북한의 사회와 문화를 연구하고 가르치고 있다. 남북관계와 관련해서는 사회문화교류와 통합에 주된 관심이 있다. 북한연구학회 회장을 역임하였고, 민주평통의 상임위원을 맡고 있으며, 통일부 자문위원이다. 대북지원 및 평화교육 사업을 하고 있는 어린이어깨동무 이사이다.
He majored in sociology and earned his Ph.D. at Yonsei University. After serving as a senior research fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification, he is currently a professor at the University of North Korea. He is studying and teaching North Korea's society and culture. Regarding inter-Korean relations, there is a major interest in social and cultural exchanges and integration. He served as president of the Korean Association of North Korean Studies, is a standing member of The Peaceful Unification Advisory Council, and is an advisor to the Unification Ministry. He is one of directors of the Okedongmu Children in Korea, which provides support for North Korea and peace education.
