Biography
Ana Beatriz Martins obtained her master's degree in Political Science and Law at Albert Ludwigs University, Germany, in 1989. She completed a post-graduate diploma for European Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, in 1991. She subsequently worked as a researcher at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels for two years before joining the European Commission.
Most of her career as an official at the European institutions was dedicated to external relations. She served as the Directorate General for External Relations, as Deputy Head of the Mercosur Division, as Desk Officer in the South Asian Division, and as Program Officer on private sector development programs for the Russian Federation and Newly Independent States. She worked at the Directorate General for Social Affairs and Employment as Head of the Enlargement section of the Employment Initiatives.
Before serving in South Korea as Deputy Head of the EU Mission and Head of the Political, Press, and Information Section, Mrs Martins served in the EU Delegation to Thailand.
