Biography
Dr. Seunghun Hyun is a Professor in the Division of Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering at Korea University. He obtained a B.S. (1996) and M.S. (1998) degree from Korea University, Seoul, Korea. He then earned his Ph.D. degree from Purdue University, USA in 2003. Dr. Hyun joined the faculty at Korea University in 2006, after which he garnered over 2.5 million dollars in funding from national agencies and industry, published > 50 journal articles, and served as the primary mentor of over 20 graduate students. His research has focused on understanding the processes that govern environmental fate and remediation of contaminants in soils, sediments, streams, and groundwater for use in mitigating contamination, decision tools, and management guidelines on the environmental system. Current research involves the natural attenuation of element leaching potential from long-term abandoned mine sites upstream of the drinking water reservoir. He is a member of the Korean Society of Water Environment, the Korean Society of Soil and Groundwater Environment, the Korean Society of Ecology and Infrastructure Engineering, the Soil Science Society of America, and the American Chemical Society.
