Biography
유엔한국협회 부회장이자, 한동대학교 초빙교수인 신부남 대사는 서울대학교에서 독어 독문학 학사 및 보스턴 대학교에서 국제관계학 석사학위를 취득했다. 1982년 외교부 입부 후 주UN 차석대사를 역임했다. 2011년 글로벌녹색성장연구소(GGGI) 녹색성장대사로활동하며 국내 기구였던 GGGI를 국제기구로 전환하는 협상 과정에서 중추적인 역할을 맡았다. 2013년 외교부 기후변화 대사를 역임하며 기후변화와 관련된 국제협상을 주도하였다. 2016년에서 2018년에는 주쿠웨이트와 주불가리아 한국대사직을 맡았으며 2018년 정년퇴직 하였다.
Ambassador Shin is a vice president of UN Association of ROK and a special invitee professor at Handong Global University in Pohang, S Korea. He was retired from Korean Government in June 2018. He was Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Bulgaria and to the State of Kuwait between April 2016 and May 2018, and between March 2014 and March 2016, respectively. Before he was appointed Ambassador to Kuwait in April 2014, he was Ambassador for Climate Change from April 2013, responsible for leading international negotiation on climate change for the Republic of Korea. Since October 2011 he was Ambassador for Green Growth to forge the negotiations on the Agreement on the Establishment of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the inter-governmental treaty to convert the GGGI into an international organization. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1982 and received a bachelor’s degree in German Literature from Seoul National University and a master’s degree in International Relations from Boston University.
