Biography

Jonghwa KIM is a full professor of Artificial Intelligence Engineering at Cheju Halla University. From 2016 to 2019, he was a professor of Computer Science at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Daejeon, Korea, and from 2002 to 2016 at the University of Augsburg, Germany. He is a specialist in artificial emotional intelligence, bio-inspired computational intelligence, and neurophysiological UX modeling with a strong record of the most highly-cited papers in the area. He led a number of international research teams in EU IST projects such as HUMAINE, CALLAS, CEEDS, and METABO. Recently he successfully conducted AAL (Ambient Assisted Living) related German (BMBF) national research projects such as SenseEmotion and GLASSISTANT. In particular, SenseEmotion is a research on sensor-based automatic pain recognition and it is recognized as a pioneering research in related fields. Jonghwa Kim serves on the boards of numerous international research institutes, scientific societies, and governmental organizations. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Communication Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany in 2003, and his Habilitation Dr. degree with Venia Legendi in Computer Science (majored in Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Augsburg in 2010.
