Biography
김종화는 현재 제주한라대학교 인공지능공학과 교수로 재직 중이고, 2016~2019년에는 과학기술연합대학원대학교(UST)에서, 2002~2016까지는 독일 아욱스부르크대학교에서 컴퓨터과학부 교수로 재직하였고 현재 겸직 중이다. 주요 학문 및 연구 분야는 인공감성지능, 바이오기반 계산인공지능, 신경생리학적 UX 모델링 등을 포함하며, 관련분야 최고 권위의 톱-인용 저널 논문 트랙을 다수 보유하고 있다. 독일 아욱스부르크대학 재직 시에는 HUMAINE, CALLAS, CEEDS 및 METABO와 같은 EU-IST 다국적 프로젝트에서 다수의 다학제적 국제연구팀들을 성공적으로 이끌었으며, 최근에는 SenseEmotion, GLASSISTANT와 같은 다수의 AAL(Ambient Assisted Living) 관련 독일 국책 프로젝트를 성공적으로 수행하였다. 특히 SenseEmotion은 센서 기반 자동통증인식에 관한 연구로서 관련분야에서는 선구적인 연구로 인정받고 있다. 그 외에도 현재 다수의 국제 연구기관, 학회 및 정부기관의 자문위원으로 활발히 활동하고 있다. 김종화 교수는 2003년 독일 베를린공대에서 정보통신공학 박사 학위를, 2010년에는 독일 아욱스부르크대학에서 컴퓨터과학(인공지능 전공) 하빌리타치온(Habilitation, 독일정교수자격박사후박사학위) 학위와 함께 Venia Legendi를 수여 받았다.
Jonghwa KIM is a full professor of Artificial Intelligence Engineering at the Cheju Halla University. In 2016-2019, he was a professor of Computer Science at the University of Science and Technology (UST) in Daejeon, Korea, and in 2002-2016 at the University of Augsburg, Germany. He is a specialist in artificial emotional intelligence, bio-inspired computational intelligence, and neurophysiological UX modelling with strong record of the most highly-cited papers in the area. He led a number of international research teams in EU IST projects such as HUMAINE, CALLAS, CEEDS and METABO. Recently he successfully conducted AAL (Ambient Assisted Living) related German (BMBF) national research projects such as SenseEmotion and GLASSISTANT. In particular, SenseEmotion is a research on sensor-based automatic pain recognition and it recognized as a pioneering research in related fields. Jonghwa Kim serves on the boards of numerous international research institutes, scientific societies, and governmental organizations. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Communication Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany in 2003, and his Habilitation Dr. degree with Venia Legendi in Computer Science (majored in Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Augsburg in 2010.
