Biography
마크 가노 의원은 2008년부터 캐나다 하원의원으로 재임 중이다. 가노 의원은 2021년 캐나다 외교부 장관, 2015년부터 2021년까지 교통부 장관을 역임했다. 정계에 입문하기 전 가노 의원은 캐나다왕립해군 장교로 복무했으며, 이후 우주비행사가 되어 1984년 우주비행을 한 최초의 캐나다인이 되었다. 또한, 그는 캐나다 우주국 국장직을 역임했다. 2003년 8월, 캐나다에서 민간인이 받을 수 있는 최고위 훈장인 캐나다 국민훈장 1등급(Companion)을 수여받았다. 가노 의원은 17년 동안 캐나다 밖에서 거주했으며, 항상 국제 정세에 많은 관심을 가져왔다.
The Honourable Marc Garneau has served as a Member of the Canadian Parliament since 2008. He has also served as Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2021 and as Minister of Transport from 2015 to 2021. Before entering politics, he was an officer in the Royal Canadian Navy and subsequently became an astronaut, being the first Canadian to fly in space in 1984. He also served as the President of the Canadian Space Agency. In August 2003, he was made a Companion of the Order of Canada, Canada’s highest civilian honour. Mr. Garneau has lived 17 years of his life outside Canada and has always been strongly interested in international affairs.
