Biography
Born on November 20, 1973, in Daegu, Dr. Lee, Sang-hyun obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Tsukuba as a Research Scholar of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in Japan
and later served as a research professor at Hanyang University. Since settling in Jeju in 2018, he has been conducting research related to urban diplomacy and maritime security policy. He participated in the development of the Jeju Island World Peace Island 2.0 Initiative in 2019 and 2020, as well as the establishment of the 3rd Comprehensive Plan for the Jeju Free International City in 2021. His recent research includes 'The Formation Process of the Korea-Japan Continental Shelf Agreement Through Diplomatic Documents' (2021), 'Japan’s Response and Implications to China's Maritime Offensive by the China Coast Guard' (2021), 'Korea-Japan Conflicts over the Industrial Revolution Heritage Sites of Meiji Japan' (2022), and 'An International Comparison of Cyber Diplomacy' (2022). His publications include East Asian Maritime Disputes and China’s Gray Zone Strategy (2020, co-author) and Research on Multicultural Policy Instruments in the Field of Equality (2021, co-author)."
