Biography

이준규는 40년 가까이 대한민국의 외교관으로 활동하다 2017년 말에 은퇴하였다. 재직중 일본, 인도, 뉴질랜드에서는 대사로, 중국(베이징)에서는 총영사로 재직하였다. 외교부 내에서는 재외동포영사국장, 외교안보연구원장을 역임하였다. 은퇴 후에는 일본, 인도와의 관계 증진을 위해 다양한 활동을 전개하고 있는데, 인도포럼 회장, 한일친선협회 중앙회 부회장으로 있다. 2020년 1월부터 한국외교협회 회장으로, 2022년 3월부터 아산정책연구원 이사장으로 재직하고 있다. 1976년에 서울대학교 법과대학을 졸업했고 1978년에는 동 대학원에서 석사학위를 받았다.

Ambassador Lee had served for almost 40 years as a career diplomat until 23 December 2017 when he officially retired. He had served in many countries such as Japan, India and New Zealand as Ambassador, China(Beijing) as Consul General. He completed his Bachelors and Masters in Law from Seoul National University in 1976 and 1978 respectively. He was Chancellor of the IFANS which is a training and research arm of MOFAT. Since his retirement from public service, he has been trying hard to contribute to betterment of Korea’s relationship with friend countries such as India and Japan in various ways. He is a President of the India Forum in Korea and a Vice President of the Korea-Japan Friendship Association. He was elected Chairman of the Korean Council on Foreign Relations in December 2019 and started his term of office in January 2020. He is serving the Asan Institute for Policy Studies as Chairman of the board since March 2022.
