Biography
박정숙 세계스마트시티기구 사무총장은 스위스 제네바소재의 세계백신면역연합(GAVI)의 한국대표를 10여년간 맡아오면서 한국이 세계백신커뮤니티에서 중요한 역할을 하도록 이끌었으며 한국국제협력단 (KOICA)의 명예대사와 수출입은행(EDCF)의 자문위원으로 활동하는 등, 국제개발 협력 분야에서 오랜 경력을 쌓은 국제 기구 전문가이다. 그녀는 한국의 주요 방송사의 모닝쇼 앵커로 활약한바 있고, 한국드라마 역사상 가장 많은 나라에서 최고 시청률로 방영된 드라마 '대장금'에 왕비로 출연한 후 미국과 일본을 비롯한 세계도시에서 한류 심포지움을 개최하여 한류와 공공외교 연구자로 변신했다. 경희대학교 객원교수와 대한민국 외교안보연구원 문화외교분야의 겸임교수로 후학양성에도 힘썼다.
그녀는 또한, 국제 사회에서 서울시와 한국의 위상을 높이는 여러 직책을 맡아 봉사하였고, 한국의 다문화가정 어린이들을 위한 교육과 멘토링을 제공하는 비영리단체인 호프키즈코리아 설립자이기도 하다. 박정숙은 서울여자대학교와 연세대 행정대학원(MPA)을 졸업했고 컬럼비아대학교 WEIA 펠로우와 국제공공대학원(MIA) 석사과정을 졸업하고 게이오대학교 방문학자와 미디어정책학 박사과정을 유학했다.
Prior to her appointment as Secretary-General of WeGO, Jung Sook Park dedicated her career in the field of international cooperation. She served as the Korean Representative of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI) for ten years from 2009 to 2018, and she worked as a high-profile broadcaster as the host of morning news shows for major TV networks in Korea for over ten years from 1994 to 2004, as well as starring in “Jewel in the Palace,” the highest-rated TV drama ever in the world. Since then, she has focused her career on education and research as a professor at Kyung Hee University and an adjunct professor of cultural diplomacy at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
She is also serving as the honorary ambassador for Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and the City of Seoul tasked with increasing public awareness about Korea's role as an international society. As a philanthropist, she is the Founder and Executive Director of the Multicultural Network & Hope Kids Korea, an NGO that provides education and mentoring for underprivileged children in Korea. Jung-sook Park is a graduate of Seoul Women's University and Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (MIA) and Yonsei University’s School of Public Administration (MPA)in Korea and studied in a doctoral program and visiting scholar at Keio University.
