Biography
헨릭 우르달(정치학 박사)은 오슬로평화연구소(PRIO) 소장이자 연구교수이다. 그는 Journal of Peace Research의 편집장을 역임하였으며, 하버드 케네디 스쿨의 국제안보 프로그램의 연구원(2011-2012)으로 재직하였다. 우르달 소장의 정치적 인구 통계학 연구는 주요 국제학술지에 게재되었다. 그는 세계은행, 유엔, 미국 국제개발처(USAID)의 컨설턴트로 활동해오고 있다. 우르달 소장은 PRIO 팀의 일원으로 세계은행/유엔개발계획의 보고서인 Pathways for Peace의 주요 배경 문서를 저술하였다. 그의 연구는 도시화의 보안 영향, 청년 팽창(youth bulge), 기후변화 등 인구와 환경의 변화가 무력분쟁에 미치는 영향에 중점을 두고 있다. 그는 PRIO와 노르웨이 외교부의 장기협력사업인 ‘분쟁 동향 프로젝트(Conflict Trends project)’의 책임자로 세계 무력분쟁 동향에 대해 광범위하게 연구해왔다.
Henrik Urdal (PhD, Political Science) is Director and Research Professor at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). He is past Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Peace Research, and a former Research Fellow with the International Security Program at Harvard Kennedy School (2011-2012). Urdal’s work on political demography has been published in leading international academic journals. He has been a consultant for international organizations like the World Bank, the United Nations, and USAID. Urdal was part of a PRIO team producing one of the key background research papers for the World Bank/UNDP report Pathways for Peace. His research focuses on the impact of population and environmental change on armed conflict, including security implications of urbanization, ‘youth bulges’, and climate change. He has worked extensively on global trends in armed conflict as past Director for the Conflict Trends project, a long-term collaborative effort between PRIO and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
