Biography
국립외교원 외교안보연구소 부교수. 연세대 노어노문학과를 졸업한 뒤 러시아 블라디보스톡 극동국립대 연수를 거쳐 2000년 동아일보사에 입사한 이래 16년간 기자 및 연구위원으로 북한 군사∙핵 문제를 다뤘고, 2017년 국립외교원에 합류했다. 2007년 북한대학원대학교에서 군사안보 전공으로 석사학위(논문명: 『북한 비대칭 군사위협 연구』), 2013년 연세대학교 정치학과에서 국제정치 전공으로 박사학위(논문명: 『북한의 전략문화와 군사행태』)를 받았으며, 스웨덴 안보개발정책연구소(ISDP)에서 주요 핵 보유국의 핵 운용전략과 북한의 핵 교리에 대한 연구 프로젝트를 진행했다. 저서로 『김정일 공포를 쏘아올리다』(2009)와 『북한 군사전략의 DNA』(2013)가 있다.
Ildo Hwang is Associate Professor at Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA). Before joining the KNDA, he worked as a staff reporter and research fellow at the Dong-A Ilbo Media Group for 16 years, and performed research projects at the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) in Stockholm, Sweden as a visiting fellow. His research interests include North Korean issues, military security, and nuclear deterrence. He has published two books about North Korean weapons of mass destruction and ROK–U.S. countermeasures. Dr. Hwang holds a Ph.D. in International Politics from Yonsei University with the dissertation regarding the strategic culture of North Korea and its military behaviors. He received M.A. degree from University of North Korean Studies in Seoul, and completed one-year course of Russian Linguistics School, Far Eastern Federal University (Дальневосточный федеральный университет) in Vladivostok, Russia.
