Biography
Boo-Won Nam is the General Secretary of the Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs (APAY) - a regional alliance comprised of 24 national/territorial YMCAs in Asia and the Pacific region. Before joining APAY, he served as National General Secretary of YMCA Korea comprised of 68 local YMCAs.
During his term as NGS of Korea YMCA, Nam was actively involved in civil society movement in Korea, as a Co-Representatives of the Solidarity Network of Civil Society Organizations in Korea; Vice President of the Korea NGOs’ Council for Overseas Development Cooperation; Chair of the Board, Korea Council of Fair-Trade Organizations. His major working areas in APAY are on Climate Change, Youth Empowerment, Gender Justice, and interfaith cooperation for justice and peace. He is currently serving as Chair of the Board, of Green Peace East Asia (GPEA) covering Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China. He is also a member of the Global Reference Group of Bread for the World (BftW), a German ecumenical funding agency. Nam studied Political Science at Yonsei University, Korea (BA), and obtained his master’s degree in Global Ethics at the University of Birmingham, UK.
