Biography
양조훈은 1948년 제주도 출생으로 제주4·3의 진실을 밝히는 일에 반평생을 받쳤다. 언론인 출신으로 10여 년간 4·3 기획 연재를 했다. 4·3 특별법 제정 이후 정부 진상조사팀 팀장을 맡아 공권력의 잘못을 밝힌 진상보고서 작성을 주도했고, 대통령의 사과를 이끌어내는 데 중추적 역할을 했다. 제주도 환경부지사와 제주4·3평화재단 이사장을 역임했다. 현재는 4·3중앙위원회(위원장: 국무총리) 위원으로 활동 중이다. 저서는 『4·3 그 진실을 찾아서』 (2015) 등 다수. 아시아태평양조정포럼 평화상 수상(2019).
Yang Jo-hoon was born in Jeju Island in 1948 and supported his half-life in revealing the truth of Jeju4·3. He was a journalist and worked on the Jeju4·3 planning serial for more than 10 years. After the enactment of the Jeju4·3 Special Act, he led the government's fact-finding team to write a fact-finding report that revealed the wrongdoings of public power, and played a pivotal role in drawing the president's apology. He served as vice governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and chairman of the Jeju4·3 Peace Foundation. Currently, he is a member of the Jeju4·3 Central Committee (Chairman: Prime Minister). Many books, including 『Finding the Truth on the Jeju4·3』 (2015), have been published. Asia-Pacific Mediation Forum Wins Peace Prize (2019).
