Biography

Ambassador Sha Zukang was Ambassador of Disarmament Affairs, China from 1995 to 1997. In 1997 – 2001, he served as Director General of Department of Arms Control in Ministry of Foreign Affairs, China. In 2001 – 2007, he was Permanent Representative of The Permanent Mission of the China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and Other International Organizations in Switzerland. In 2010, he was nominated as the Secretary General of the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20). During 2007 – 2012, he served as United Nations Under Secretary General, in Department of Economic and Social Affairs. He was China’s Chief negotiator of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty in his position as Chinese Ambassador of Disarmament Affairs.
