Biography
DR. Raden Mohammad Marty Muliana Natalegawa KCMG served as Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia from 2009 to 2014. He served as Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN in New York (2007-2009). During that time, he served as President of the Security Council in November 2007. From 2005 to 2007, he served as Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Court of St. James and Ireland. From 2002 to 2005, he served as Chief of Staff of the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Director General for ASEAN Cooperation, and Spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs. He also served at the Permanent Mission of Indonesia to the UN in New York (1994-1999), including during Indonesia’s membership of the Security Council in 1996-1997. He was awarded the Satyalancana Wira Karya medal from the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in 2011. On 17 August 2014, he was awarded the Bintang Mahaputra Adipradana medal. In November 2012, he was made Honourary Knight Commander of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (KCMG) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In 2013, the Foreign Policy Magazine included Dr. Natalegawa among the 500 most influential individuals. He served as a member of the United Nations Secretary-General High-Level Panel on Global Response to Health Crises. He also serves as an Asia Society Policy Institute Distinguished Fellow and is soon to commence as a member of the CSIS (Washington) Southeast Asia Advisory Board and International Academic Advisory Committee of the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, University of Oxford.
