Biography
Paul Evans is a professor of Asian and trans-Pacific international relations at the University of British Columbia. He has held academic appointments and directed centres, institutes and programs at York, Harvard and UBC and served for three years as Co-CEO of the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. He was a co-founder of the Council for Security Cooperation in Asia Pacific. His recent writings have focused on East Asian security institutions, the emergence of global China, and Canada-China relations. His book Engaging China: Myth, Aspiration and Strategy in Canadian Policy from Trudeau to Harper was published by the University of Toronto Press in 2014, and he is the co-author with Wendy Dobson of the report The Future of Canada's Relationship with China published by the IRPP in November. He represents Canada on the ASEAN Regional Forum's Experts and Eminent Persons Group.
