Biography
Mrs. Hyunsook Lee, the Gender Equality Policy Administrator at Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, was appointed in August 2018 with the establishment of the ‘Gender Equality Policy Department’ in Jeju for the first time in the country and has been in charge of gender equality policy. Gender Equality Policy Department is drawing attention from other local governments as it promotes various gender equality policies, including the Jeju-type gender equality policy "더 제주처럼”. From 1995 to 2018, Mrs. Lee worked as a reporter at the ‘Halla Ilbo’, a media company in Jeju. As a working mom who went on maternity leave for the first time, she carried out various activities and reported on women's rights. She served as head of the newspaper's social affairs department, head of the economy department, head of the culture department, and head of the Seogwipo city branch. For the first time as a female journalist, she served as president of the Journalists Association of the Halla Ilbo and secretary-general of the Jeju Regional Press Council. She served as the female chairperson of the Jeju Journalists Association, and the female policy advisor of Jeju City.
She was also a media education instructor as a member of the NIE Society and published an educational book “Every Kid's Newspaper Play Is Up to Their Mom”
