Mrs. Boksil Lee has worked for the South Korean government for 30 years, in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. She was appointed as the Vice Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family (MGEF) in 2013. Throughout the twenty years she worked at the MGEF, she was an avid civil servant devoted to resolving various policy issues and empowering women, including childcare policies. After her retirement in 2014, she began to expand her work and contribute towards expanding the role and participation of female business executives. Since 2016, she has been one of the founding members of the WCD (Women Corporate Directors) Korea Chapter, and currently, she is the president. WCD, a global network of female board of directors. In 2020, WCD led the legislation that mandated to have at least one female board of directors for companies with over 2 trillion won total assets.
