Sung Kyung Kim currently works as an Associate Professor and a deputy director of the Center for North-South Korea Mind Integration at the University of North Korean Studies. She also works as an editor-in-chief in the Review of North Korean Studies which is a Korean Citation Index Journal (KCI) issued by the Korean Research Foundation. She received her Ph.D. in sociology at the University of Essex in the UK and previously served as a lecturer in the Department of Sociology and a senior visiting fellow in the Asia Research Institute (ARI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is a member of the Peace and Prosperity Division in the Presidential Commission on Policy-Planning and a board member in the Ministry of Unification, ROK. Her research interests are North Korean society and culture; North Korean mobility; Sociology of emotion and affect; cultural geography and cultural studies. Recent publications are in the fields of North Korean studies, Asian mobility, migration studies, and cultural industry.
