Biography
1980년부터 38년간 직업외교관으로 근무한바 있는 최성주 대사는 외교부 군축비확산과장과 국제기구협력관, 국제안보대사 및 평가담당대사 등을 각각 역임하였다. 또한, 최 대사는 알제리 및 폴란드 주재 특명전권대사로 근무하였다. 그리고, 그는 유엔사무총장 군축자문위원(2012년-2017년)과 서울사이버스페이스총회 준비기획단장(2013년)을 각각 역임하면서, 국제군축비확산 및 사이버, 신안보 현안을 관장한 바 있다. 2019년 이후, 최 대사는 ‘보다 나은 미래를 위한 반기문 재단’에서 외교안보실장으로 근무하면서, 고려대학교 특임교수로도 활동하고 있다. 그는 서울대학교 불어불문학과를 졸업한 후, 프랑스 파리11대학교 법학대학원에서 국제공법을 전공하였다.
During 38 years’ diplomatic career since 1980, Amb. Choi held such domestic posts as Director for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, Senior Coordinator for Int’l Organization, Ambassador for International Security, and Ambassador for Performance Evaluation. As for his Ambassadorial posts, he served Ambassador to Algeria and Poland respectively. In addition, he worked as a member of the UN Secretary General’s Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters(ABDM) as well as the Head of Preparatory Secretariat for Seoul Cyberspace Conference. Since 2019, he is working at the ‘Ban Ki-moon Foundation for a Better Future’ as Head of International Cooperation, and is lecturing at the Korea University. He graduated from Seoul National University, and University of Paris XI.
