Biography

Hyun Sook Oum is currently a research professor at the Simyeon Institute for North Korean Studies at the University of North Korean Studies. She also teaches at the College of Liberal Arts and Graduate School of Techno Design at Kookmin University, the Graduate School of Education at Seoul National University of Education, and the Graduate School at Shinhan University. Additionally, she serves as a consultant for the National Unification Advisory Council and as a Unification Education Commissioner. Oum received her Ph.D. in North Korean Studies with a specialization in unification education from the University of North Korean Studies in 2016, with her dissertation titled “A Study on North Korean Educational Methods: 1960–2015.” Her primary research interests focus on North Korean and unification education as well as social integration between South and North Korea.
