Biography
Aisaka Jo is a correspondent for Tokyo Newpaper. Born in Tokyo, in 1980, he graduated from Waseda University. After joining the Junichi Shimbun in 2004, he began his career as a journalist at a local branch office in the mountainous region of Nagano Prefecture, covering under-problems in rural areas. He moved to Junichi Shimbun, the Nagoya headquarters, to cover the earthquake (March 11 earthquake). Since 2014, he has worked in the press department in Osaka and covered Japan’s Yushinhoe, which has been expanding its power in Kansai, Korea’s concentrated residential area, and ethnic discrimination issues. With an interest in Korean Peninsula issues, he studied Korean at Sungkyunkwan University from 2017 to 2018. After working at the Tokyo Shimbun;s Foreign Press Department, he was appointed as a correspondent at the Seoul branch in March 2020. Currently, he is covering form various fields to Japanese readers, including Korean politics, inter-Korean relations, ‘Crash Landing on You’ and BTS.
