Biography

Born in Jeju Island, Kim graduated from Korea University in Korean literature and entered the TBS documentaries as a producer, in 1976. He joined the Joong Ang Ilbo in 1980 and served as head of the Social Affairs Department, Seoul Metropolitan Department, director of the ‘Monthly Joong Ang Ilbo’, and editor-in-chief of the Joong Ang Ilbo in New York. He also served as the CEO of the JoongAng Ilbo, New York, from 2004 to 2009. He has been running the International Internship Agency 'Challenge USA 21' since 2010 and has been working as a managing director of KBTV (KBS AMERICA) since 2017. He won the Prime Minister's Award at the Korea Broadcasting Awards in 1979, the JoongAng Ilbo's Inaugural Members Award in 1981 and 1983, and the JoongAng Ilbo's Exclusive News Award in 1990. In 1991, he was awarded the Nassau County-New York Award for his contribution to the community, by developing the Korea-U.S. cultural exchange.
and in 2021, he won the Jeju Island Cultural Award for his contribution to the April 3rd Human Rights Symposium. He has contributed to informing U.S. society, about the sad background and truth of the April 3rd history, and has served as chairman of Jeju residents in New York and New Jersey since 1999.
