Biography
WON Hee-ryong, Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Born on February 14, 1964, in Jeju, Governor Won Hee-ryong entered Seoul National University’s School of Law in 1982 and graduated in 1989. He passed the 34th national bar exam in 1992 and served as a public prosecutor at Seoul, Suwon, Yeoju, and Busan prosecutors’ branch offices from 1995 to 1998. From 2000, he served as a member of the 16th, 17th, and 18th Korean National Assembly, a member of the Supreme Council of the Grand National Party (GNP), Chairman of the GNP Special Renovation Committee as well as Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Unification of the National Assembly. In 2014, he was awarded Global Young Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos and was appointed President of United Cities and Local Governments-Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) from 2014 to 2018. He was elected Governor of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province in 2014 and is now serving his second term after being reelected in 2018.
