Biography

Dr. Youngmee Jee is Special Representative for Health Diplomacy, Korea Foundation and a Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Public Administration, Seoul National University. Dr Youngmee Jee has broad experience in collaborating with WHO and international public health partners. Currently, she is a member of the WHO International Health Regulation Emergency Committee on COVID-19 and of the WHO Scientific Advisory Group for the Blueprint on Research and Development Preparedness for Epidemics. She is currently an Advisor to the Global Center for Infectious Diseases, Seoul National University College of Medicine and Long-Term Expert Advisor of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology. From 2014 to 2019, she served as Director-General of the Center for Infectious Disease Research of the Korea Centers for Disease Control. Prior to this appointment, Dr Jee worked for the Expanded Programme on Immunization in the WHO Western Pacific Region as a Scientist and Regional Coordinator during 2007-2014. She received her M.D. from Seoul National University Medical School (1986), a Diploma in Medical Microbiology (1988) and her Ph.D. in Virology from the University of London (1997).

지영미 특별대표는 현재 서울대 행정대학원 객원교수이며, WHO 코로나19 긴급위원회 위원과 WHO R&D 블루프린트 과학자문위원으로 활동하고 있다. 이외에도 WHO 예방접종전략자문위원회 (SAGE) 홍역워킹그룹 위원, 한국생명공학연구원 정책전문위원 등 감염병 분야 전문가로 국내외에서 활동 중이다. 2014-2019년 중 질병관리본부 감염병연구센터장과 면역병리센터장을 역임했으며 2007-2014년 기간에는 WHO 서태평양지역사무소 예방접종프로그램에서 지역조정관으로 근무하였다. 1986년 서울대학교 의과대학 졸업 후 1988년과 1997년 영국 University of London에서 의학미생물학 분야 Diploma와 바이러스학 박사학위를 취득하였다.
