Biography
Dr. MAKINO Atsushi is a Professor of Lifelong Learning in the Graduate School of Education, The University of Tokyo (2007- ) and also a Vice Director of the Institute of Gerontology (IOG), The University of Tokyo (2013-20). He is a member of the Lifelong Learning Sub-committee, Central Education Council of the Japanese Government (2012- ). He is also a member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Center for Innovative Research on Aging Society (CIRAS) at National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan (2017- ), and a Visiting Professor at East China Normal University (2002- ). He is one of the Executive Directors of The Japan Society for Studies in Adult and Community Education (2008- ).
He has been involved in the reform of the administrative and educational system, especially the lifelong learning system of Japan’s local-level government. He is strongly interested in the development of lifelong learning and the emergence of the transformation of the system in the context of Japan’s social change.
His published works are; The History of Discussion over the Kominkan (Community Learning Center), University of Tokyo Press, 2018; Learning: The Movement to Create Community and Strengthen Society, University of Tokyo Press, 2018 and over 500 articles published in Japanese, Chinese and English.
