Lyu Seung-reul was born on July 20, 1956, received a Ph.D. in Korean History, from the College of Humanities, Seoul National University, and is currently a professor at Kangwon National University. As a major in Korean modern and contemporary history, he focuses on the development of Korean capitalism and life history. He has a lot of interest in history education as well and served as president of the History Education Research Association. He has also participated in research to resolve the historical conflict between Korea, China, and Japan, and worked as a research member of the 2nd Korea-Japan History Joint Research Committee. Recently, he participated in international academic symposiums on history education held at several universities, including the East China Normal University in China to promote understanding of the history of Korea and China.
