Biography
Kyung Sun has received degrees of MD(1981), PhD(1990), and MBA(2007) from Korea University. Dr. Sun is a skilled cardiac surgeon, a researcher, an educator, and an administrator. After being board-certified (1986), he has operated over several thousand cases of thoracic and cardiovascular surgeries. As a researcher, he has been involved in medical device developments including Korean artificial heart and ECMO. As an educator, he has served as a professor of the Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery department and Biomedical Engineering departments of medical school together with KU-KIST Graduate School at Korea University. As an administrator, he served as a vice president of Korea University for medical planning and budget, Director of the R&D Promotions Bureau at Korea Health Industry Development Institute, and CEO & Chair of Osong Medical Innovation Foundation. Dr. Sun has founded the Korea Artificial Organ Center and also played a key role in academic societies such as the National Academy of Medicine Korea, the Korean Society for Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery (Board-chair), the Korean Society for Biomaterials (President), the Korean Society of Medical & Biological Engineering (President), Asia-Pacific Society for Artificial Organs (Vice-president), Presidential Council for National Science & Technology.
