Biography
Mr. Bong-hyun Kim passed the High Diplomatic Service Examination in 1982 to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of Korea. He served in various countries, including Japan, the Russian Federation, and Pakistan. He also worked at the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, U.S.A. (1996-2000 and 2001-2002). In 2000, he served as the Director of the United Nations Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT). His career includes Advisor to the Minister of MOFAT (2004-2005), Senior Director for Innovation and Personnel Management, MOFAT (2005-2006), and Director-General of Overseas Koreans and Consular Affairs Bureau (2006-2008). 2008, he became the Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Korean Permanent Mission to the United Nations from 2008 to 2011. He was appointed Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs, MOFAT from 2011 to 2013. He served as a Sherpa for the Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul in 2012 as Deputy Minister. He was appointed in 2013 and served as the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Australia until May 2016. He obtained his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Dongguk University, the Republic of Korea, in 2009.
