Biography

Matteo Renzi was born in Florence in January 1975. In 2004 he was elected President of the Province of Florence. Four years later, he decides to take on a new challenge: he announces his intention to stand in the primary elections to become a candidate for Mayor of Florence. In 2012 he announced his candidacy as leader of the Centre-left, standing in the primaries. Meanwhile, he continues his commitment as Mayor of Florence. Matteo Renzi becomes the Prime Minister of Italy in the year 2014, the youngest in history. After the negative result of the constitutional referendum in December 2016, he resigns as Prime Minister. Following the results of the Italian parliamentary election, in 2018 he resigns as Leader of the PD. Last september Matteo Renzi left the Democratic Party to found "Italia Viva". Matteo Renzi is currently the Senator for Florence. His activity as a politician has been accompanied by his writing: “Fuori!” (2011), “Stilnovo” (2012), “Oltre la rottamazione” (2013), “Avanti! Perché l’Italia non si ferma” (2017)" and a  “Un'altra strada” (2019).
